attractions, services & borders information

The following links will take you to websites offering information on local places of interest. Whether you are a couple planning to get married in The Borders, a keen fisherman, an avid hill walker or a window shopper, hopefully there is something here for you.

places & attractions

Traquair House

"The oldest inhabited house in Scotland" was home to many kings and queens and lies just a few minutes away across the Tweed river. If you are getting married at Traquair, Caddon View can provide the extra accomodation your wedding party may need.

The Hub in the Forest

In recent years Innerleithen has become something of a mecca for mountain bikers. The Hub is the place to visit for anyone wishing to explore the many bike trails in Tweeddale.

Mellerstain House

Mellerstain is one Scottish architect Robert Adam's finest creations. This masterpiece of Georgian grandeur has beautiful interiors, as well as some lovely walks. In high summer the rose garden is beautiful, and the little tea room provides welcome refreshments. The house is far less well known than it should be.

Robert Smail's Printing Works

Another little-known Borders gem, the Printing Works will delight ‘children of all ages’ and anyone interested to discover (and try) for themselves printing as it was done a century ago. Gen and the rest of the National Trust for Scotland staff will make you glad it was raining that day! Call on 01896 830206 to check opening times. You can find out more about the Trust's properties in the Borders on their website.

Tweed Valley Osprey Project

Fantastic opportunities in spring and summer to see some of these magnificent Scottish birds as they rear chicks at their nests. Nearby Kailzie Gardens and Glentress Forest both have viewing centres.
