The Scottish Borders stretches for 1800 square miles, and Innerleithen makes a wonderful gateway to this rural area, and an ideal base from which to explore a part of Scotland unfamiliar to many. At just under one hour from Waverley Station in the centre of Edinburgh (30 miles / 47 km), one and a half hours from Glasgow (60 miles / 96 km) and two hours 20 minutes from Newcastle (86 miles / 138 km), escaping to spend time at ‘one of Scotland's best Bed & Breakfasts’ is easy. Several bus routes also serve the district (we keep current timetables handy), including one to the centre of Edinburgh. The A72 goes through Innerleithen and connects us with Peebles (6 miles / 10 km) to the west and Galashiels (11 miles / 18 km east).

Summer in the Scottish BordersScotland may not be the first choice for those seeking guaranteed sunshine, but summer in the Borders can be beautiful, with rich green pasture giving way to golden fields of corn, and wide blue skies. The other seasons all have their charms too - the lambing and blossoms of the spring, blazing autumn beeches and glimpses of foxes, and crisp winter nights with owls and hot chocolate!

The air quality is enviable too, and for those used to choking city fumes it really is a fresh breath. For some idea of what the weather holds in store over the next few days, visit the BBC weather page for Innerleithen
