Walking

A luxury short break in the Scottish Borders in association with Make Tracks, who provide self-guided walking tours, this is an ideal way to get away from it all. A choice of excellent walks each day, including short transfers to the start and from the finish of each walk. After each day on the hill, you can look forward to enjoying comfort, style, and fine dining in one of the best places to stay in the Scottish Borders. The break includes: -

Borders Hilltops - Suggested Itinerary (4 Nights)
Day 1 Arrive Innerleithen Less than one hour from Edinburgh by public transport, and easy to get to by car. You could leave London on a Friday afternoon and still be on time for an evening meal. We can also arrange transfers from Edinburgh airport and the bus and train stations..
Day 2 Yair to Innerleithen (10m, 16k) A short transfer by car, then a short but stiff climb (to 464 metres, 1,500 feet) taking you to a summit marked by the Three Brethren, massive cairns marking ancient local boundaries. Then a fine ridge walk on an ancient drove road (the Minchmoor Road), taking in a few more summits (to 523 metres, 1,700 feet), Then downhill to Traquair, and a short walk back across the Tweed to Innerleithen.
Day 3 Innereleithen to St Mary's Loch (13m, 21k) Another walk that takes in part of the Southern Upland Way. Walk through Traquair, then easy walking on good tracks (max height 475 metres, 1,600 feet). Then a short downhill section before a lovely walk along the banks of St Mary's Loch to your destination, the famouse old coaching house, Tibbie Shiels Inn - a great setting for a couple of drinks before your transfer back to Innerleiethen by car.
Day 4

Peebles to Innerleithen (12m, 19k)

A 10 minute transfer by car - then another fine ridge walk, with views all the way to Edinburgh in good weather. Maximum height is 600m (2,000 feet), taking in several tops without dropping below 500m. The walk culminates at Lee Pen, the hill that dominates Innerleithen, leaving just a short descent to your comfortable accommodation there.
Day 5 Depart Innerleithen

As with all our holidays and short walking breaks, the itinerary can be adapted to suit your own specific needs. The suggested itinerary can easily be shortened to 2 or 3 nights, or extended for as long as you like (there are so many great walks in this area). Standard rooms are normally available as well as the advertised superior rooms.

If you would like to spend a morning or afternoon on a guided walk around the Tweed Valley with local landscape photographer Graham Riddell then please let us know.  You will discover the natural beauty of the area whilst learning to develop your photography skills.

Fly Fishing for Trout and Grayling

A luxury short break in the Scottish Borders in association with Tweed Guide, Scotland’s leading fly fishing guide service. You will learn how to fly fish or simply improve your skills with your personal guide/instructor using the finest fishing equipment, waders and jackets from the House of Hardy. All permits are supplied for a nearby private stretch of the world famous River Tweed - where you may not see another angler all day. After each day on the river, you can look forward to enjoying comfort, style, and fine dining in one of the best places to stay in the Scottish Borders. The break includes: -

Borders River Fishing - Suggested Itinerary (3 Nights)

 

Day 1

Arrive Innerleithen

Less than one hour from Edinburgh by public transport, and easy to get to by car. You could leave London on a Friday afternoon and still be on time for an evening meal.

Day 2

Fly Fishing on a private stretch of River Tweed for trout and grayling

After breakfast your own fishing guide/instructor will meet you at Caddon View.
All fishing equipment waders wading jackets, flies, permits supplied for 2 days. All you need bring is your enthusiasm. Instruction from beginner to advanced until lunchtime, then fish on your own for the rest of the day until dinner.

Day 3

Fly Fishing on nearby private stretch of River Tweed for trout and grayling

After leisurely breakfast, fish on your own and enjoy the sheer tranquillity of the beautiful Tweed Valley whilst honing your skills until return to Caddon View for dinner.

Tweed Guide will collect all gear etc.

Day 4

Depart Innerleithen
